Repressed Authenticity

People consistently conceal their genuine characters to suit the expectation of others. Men are expected to be dominating and masculine; women are expected to be submissive and feminine. The indisputable truth is that everyone is born with different attributes and mix of masculinity and femininity.

Projecting the opposite expectation is to be criticized by the unspoken rules of society. But is it? Perhaps only in some narrow-minded societies, in which case they don’t deserve your attention.

Repressing your true self means suffocating your freedom to live, denying your special ability, and shortchanging your happiness. No matter how much energy you’ve expanded to fetter your true color, it leaks out eventually—usually during unpleasant moments.

Nurture your uniqueness, wear your heart on your sleeve.
